Discussion: Receiving and Releasing Information
A colleague reaches out to you requesting information on a client. You do not have a lot of information, as you have only interviewed the client one time. They are working with the client’s spouse, who is also seeking help from your agency. Your colleague asked if you could just send over what you have and it’s just for her purposes. It won’t be shared with her client. Since it won’t be shared beyond your colleague, you send it along via fax, that is only located in her office and others do not have access to it.
To Prepare
Consider whether the colleague requested the information in an appropriate way in the provided scenario. Did you release the information in an acceptable manner? Review the considerations Summers discusses in Chapter 19 of your course text.
By Day 3
Post an explanation of two considerations about receiving and releasing information about people who could be considered human and social services clients in your area of interest. Then, discuss the two potential issues that you selected in detail: define what they are, how a human and social services professional can identify these situations, and advise what cautions should be taken by the human and social services professional in these situations.
