.      Imagine that a family friend or colleague has just been diagnosed with cancer. Explain how the American Cancer Society might provide education and support. What ACS services would you recommend and why?

I would recommend to my best friends husband the services of Taking Care of Yourself as a Caregiver. When you are caring for someone who is sick: you take on new responsibilities, are overwhelmed, usually exhausted and worry constantly about the future. This service provides tips and reminders to help you make sure you are taking care of yourself as well. With the emotion stress put on the caregivers, it is important that they can recognize when they need help and to know that it is ok to ask for help. They have counselors, support groups, and appointment services. It will help you decide on what your limits are, and what to do and who to go to for the above limit responsibilities. They provide coping checklists for caregivers, which is a nice tool to get to see the reality of everything you do for the person you care for on paper. It can be a guide to help you get professional help. Help can include respite care, keeping your priorities, family, a priority and keeping yourself a priority.

What factors contribute to the yearly incidence and mortality rates of various cancers in Americans? What changes in policy and practice are most likely to affect these figures over time

Prevention and early detection are central to our mission of helping save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Much of the suffering and death from cancer could be prevented by more systematic efforts to reduce tobacco use and obesity, improve diet, and increase physical activity and the use of established screening tests.1 In 2017 about 190,500 cancer deaths in the US will be caused by cigarette smoking alone. Over time with the new cancer screening tools can contribute to a reduction in cancer cases. This early detecting is a huge asset. The knowledge based on research is a huge impact to reduce the numbers of death a year from cancer. Making people more aware of their diet and exercise has been a huge incentive for a lot of people.

The use of potentially lifesaving prevention and early detection measures is profoundly influenced by individual behaviors, as well as social, economic, and public policy factors. The American Cancer Society has published Cancer Prevention & Early Detection Facts & Figures (CPED) is a resource to strengthen cancer prevention and early detection efforts at the local, state, and national levels.
